postpartum care is a necessity, not a luxury

holding sacred ground so new mothers can blossom.

Postpartum care in the Hudson Valley/Catskills region

I want you to root down in the postpartum time. To be nourished and held, so you can nourish and hold your new babe. To feel witnessed and utterly supported so you can fall back into the arms of your own mother wisdom. To allow this time to be one of rest, healing, pleasure, and deep recentering.

Cultures around the world have similar understandings of what postpartum women need. These needs are universal, no one who has given birth is exempt. Rest, warmth, nourishment, community.

And yet so many of us don’t experience them. So many of us go throughout postpartum times with a well meaning but judgemental relative washing dishes and taking the baby occasionally. With friends stopping by, bringing flowers, and asking to be hosted. With partners going back to work a week after the baby is born and being left alone with a newborn the whole day. With grief, isolation, hunger, and over work.

The true design of this period however, is one of bliss, pleasure, and deep growth. Not because everything will be easy, but when the innate needs of our bodies and spirits are met, we can dive into these deeper processes of integration and meeting our raw edges resourced, supported, and held.

I have a vision of the beauty and transformation that can be present in the postpartum time.

I know that we were not meant to be left alone, to “just do the best we can”. To struggle and suffer through the postpartum time to the extent that the very word postpartum which literally means “post birth” has become synonymous with depression.

what this looks like

My intention with each visit is to provide support and presence so you can receive, rest, process, and be nourished. Each session will be between 3 and 4 hours. That will look vastly different for different families, and on different days, however, some of the things we may explore in our time together may include:

  • warming therapies - abhyanga (Ayurvedic oil massage), yoni steaming, moxa, sitz bath, herbal baths

  • light household tasks and grocery shopping

  • ritual processing and witnessing through this portal

  • herbal preparations

  • support and education on resting and rebuilding after birth

  • emotional support and council

  • sister to sister support with breastfeeding, baby care, etc

  • nourishing foods and yummy drinks

  • "For me the postpartum time, while of course challenging at times, was overall a beautiful opportunity to reset. And a lot of that was due to having postpartum support."

    ~ Stephanie

I am not here to hold your baby or help you fold onesies.

I am here to revolutionize the way we care for postpartum women. I am here to revillage.

We used to be the village that we all crave today.

When our sisters gave birth, we were there to hold space. To bring soup. To hold her while she cried. To welcome the new mother-baby and the new baby-mother with joy and songs. We showed up quietly with food and tea and love. We sat by her bed and rubbed her feet. We made her herbal baths, and listened and witnessed.

I offer my support to you in this precious time to create this village again. To reweave the threads of care, presence, and practice knowledge that used to be commonplace.

Postpartum has only been able to be corresponded with depression in a culture that no longer understands and honors the physiological design of this time. In a culture where a 6 week visit to “clear you for sex” is considered adequate care. Where women are praised for getting back to the yoga studio a week after birth. Where ⅓ of women experience prolapse because we think we’re only valuable if we can do it all, and no one is there to gently take the vacuum out of our hands, and tuck us back into bed with a cup of broth.

This may be common, but it’s not normal.

I want you to feel resourced and held in your postpartum time. I want to work together to change this myth of the horrors of the postpartum time to one of sinking into joy and pleasure on your mothering path.

For you, for the women you will touch,

and for our daughters.

New moms don’t need more onesies!
